Are Skin Care Products Harmful?
July 26, 2012
Repeating, I was very sick and I made myself well by the food I ate. I started writing this blog to review my research on what I was discovering about natural food and natural living. With my illness, I had pain — unbelievable pain, I soon realized it was inflammation. My body was inflamed from the toxins in and around my world and in and around me. It had taken years of build up and it would take years to build down to pain-free by detoxing the toxins.
It came about for many reasons and it took many years to tame the pain. I achieved my goal and Now I am basically pain-free. I still have gut digestion up and downs but have come a long way, Baby!
I Started Slowly
I started very slowly. I began, of course, with the food. But that wasn’t all, I look around and started clearing up toxic household items like the soap I was using for my hair, skin, dishes, clothes, other cleaners and other toxins. There are many areas but one good start is simply what you put on your skin.
Your Skin Is Very Absorbent
Your skin is water proof but Did you know your skin is absorbent?
To quote Dr. Mercola “don’t put anything on your body that you wouldn’t eat. Most items you rub on your skin end up in your bloodstream and are distributed throughout your body.”
Transdermal Patch
It is a good thing the skin is the largest organ but also the thinnest because it can be used as a great delivery system for medication. The first commercial prescription patch was approved by the FDA in December 1979.
First Transdermal Patch Approved by the FDA
We now use the transdermal patch for many things like Smoking sensation, Pain relief, birth control and many other things.
The first patch became what is called the transdermal patch, a medicated adhesive patch placed on the skin to deliver a specific dose of medication through the skin and into the bloodstream. The patch provides a controlled release of the medication over a certain period of time.
A wide variety of pharmaceuticals are now available in transdermal patch form. It is highly successful in delivery of pain relieve and the delivery of nicotine for the smoker trying to break the habit. It is even used in birth control.
You Can Absorb MORE Toxins from Skin Care Products than Food
Remember, your skin is your largest organ — and also the thinnest. Less than 1/10th of an inch separates your body from potential toxins. Worse yet, your skin is highly permeable. Remember most items you rub on your skin, will end up in your bloodstream, and distributed throughout your body organs.
Putting chemicals on your skin may actually be worse than eating them. When you eat something, the enzymes in your saliva and stomach help to break it down and flush it out of your body.
However, when you put these chemicals on your skin, they are absorbed straight into your bloodstream without filtering of any kind. Once these chemicals find their way into your body, they tend to accumulate over time because you typically lack the necessary enzymes to break them down. When you add up daily exposure over the course of a lifetime, it really adds up!
Take the time to look at the Product Label on the back of the bottle of hand lotion, or anything else you put on your skin, hair, or nails. Most of all hand lotions contain a whole lot of unknown chemical stuff, and a large amount of alcohol some as high as 95%.
I once asked a moisturizer sales man; why do most hand lotions seem to be mostly alcohol? He looked puzzled then said, “It’s a type of alcohol that not the one you drink”. Now we will talk alcohol in a second but the next major ingredient in your hand sanitizer is Mineral oil. Mineral oil comes from petroleum
another word for what you put in your car engine to make it go (It’s called Gasoline). In fact Vaseline Petroleum Jelly has been around as long as Crisco. If nothing else the thick jelly does not break down. The thick jelly blocks your pores and your skin cannot breathe, which may be why we have so many dry, irritated and agitated skin conditions.
What do you think the work petroleum means – a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons that is present in certain rock strata and can be extracted and refined to produce fuels including gasoline, kerosene, and diesel oil; oil.
Now back to alcohol, I entered the question into a search engine and got this as an answer, “Do not confuse the cetearyl alcohol contained in hand lotions and other skin care products with liquids such as rubbing alcohol or ethyl alcohol that can dry the skin. Cetearyl alcohol is white, waxy substance that provides the creamy texture common to hand lotions and helps make skin feel smoother. It also helps hold the various ingredients in the lotion together in a stable mixture.”
I hate to say anything right now, but remembering what Dr. Mercola said, I don’t really think I want to eat very much Cetearyl alcohol, more of that later.
Now let us talk about Hand Sanitizers. Now most Hand Sanitizers contain 99.99% ethanol which is the kind you drink.
Just a note if you pour yourself a beer or any other high ball you will not be getting even 75% alcohol. You will be getting much less.
The Properties of Ethanol Alcohol
Ethanol is in Vodka, Gin and maybe a few more brands. Now that Martini I could put in my tummy!!!!!!!
Since 2002 the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended the use of alcohol based hand sanitizers. First used in hospital settings as a supplement to regular hand washing, it soon became regularly used in other public settings like schools, grocery stores and who knows where else. Hand sanitizers contain a high concentration of alcohol to kill bacteria on the surface of your hands. It kills the bacteria on the skin and strips the oil from the skin to prevent future bacterial growth. Your skin becomes very dry. My skin becomes inflamed, turns red, flaky, and it hurts. I am still trying to heal the skin damaged by hand sanitizers. I avoid hand sanitizers and I’m a nurse.
Our GrandParent Believed “Dirt Is Good For You”
… and so did I as a kid.
America is so overly concerned with avoiding fat and getting rid of Dirt. I planted a garden this year and guess what Dirt is not Dirty. Dirt is good for you like saturated fat is good for you. America spends hours and hours getting rid of germs, avoiding fat, eating sugar, drinking bottled water and watching TV. Just as they strip their food of all nutrition, they wash everything within sight. They wash their hands, their children’s hands, their clothes, their hair, their pet, the bathroom, the house and everything else with a wild eye obsession. This constant manic hand washing behavior is a direct result of the constant brain washing propaganda we are subjected to by Big Pharma, Business, Government and Nannies. We are so concerned with washing; we have almost completely destroyed what we were born with. God gave us a very strong immune system, for free. Our mania with soap has created bacteria resistant disease like MRSA, increased allergies, asthma, inflammation and who knows what else. God even gave us a way to replenish our immune system. He made our skin absorbent so that it can easily absorb vitamin D. That is, if the skin has not been covered up with a wad of Sun screen.
We are so concerned about being clean we even give our children alcohol in the form of a hand sanitizer. If you don’t believe me, read on.
Hand Sanitizer Dangers
Hand sanitizers remove germs from your hands but, they also deliver alcohol directly to the blood stream. Besides the risk of alcohol poisoning, your child may very well become inebriated (my granddad called it drunk). Several applications of a hand sanitizer can deliver up to four shots of vodka. Now that will help a child’s concentration in school. At least the child will be happy, dumb but happy.
Even a small dose can be dangerous leading to dizziness, slurred speech, headaches and brain damage. Good thing the child can’t drive a car, for if stopped by a police officer they might just be given a DWR.
Tomorrow headlines; “Four Year Old, in child seat arrested for DWR.” (Drunk while riding).
Update 2/26/2013
I just got a new headline concerning children, hand sanitizer and alcohol
Alcohol is extremely flammable.
Here is one Side effect I had not thought of when using alcohol based Hand sanitizer. Alcohol is extremely flammable. Natural News has the story Ireland Lane who ran screaming from her hospital room with the front of her t-shirt on fire. Static electricity had ignited the flammable hand sanitizer.
Click here to read the story.
Warning: Hand sanitizer may burst into flame and incinerate your skin
Now let us turn to some sanity.
Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Coconut Oil
There are available from the market Hand Sanitizers not made of alcohol but of Coconut Oil and others.
But simple Coconut oil can be used for skin care; Dr. Fife says “I put it on my skin too. It is excellent for the skin; if you want to become a believer in the health benefits of coconut oil, just start using it on your skin. Dry, hard, discolored, and flaky skin will transform into soft, smooth healthy looking skin within weeks. Topically it seems to be able to benefit almost any skin condition. I wouldn’t say that it can cure every type of skin condition, but I’ve seen a wide variety of conditions improve-and sometimes completely vanish-with the use of coconut oil. It can help speed healing of cuts and burns; there’s a long tradition in the islands of using coconut oil as a sunscreen. It is great for fungal infections such as ringworm and athlete’s foot. “
Coconut oil can be used for hair care, mouth care, fungal infections, anti-wrinkle treatment, and even cancer. Now along with that martini I can eat coconut oil.
Now we have just getting started on this subject. Today we just discussed our skin. There is a long list of alternative cleaning products available. This list includes coconut oil, Baking Soda, raw unfiltered unpasteurized Apple Vinegar, white vinegar, hand-made soap, lemon, and a lot more your mother and grandmother know all about. More of that later.
I don’t know why people are so worried about America’s future, when we are doing our best to willingly wipe ourselves off the face of the earth. We are worried about aging, dementia and Alzheimer’s but we don’t seem to remember how to take care of our bodies. We will follow along hook line and sinker any new fad that comes along, but we seem to have forgotten what our Grandparents knew; How to care for and listen to your own body.
